League Night and My First Score of Zero---WTF!!!

Well, it finally happened. After all of my 7 years of playing pool, it finally happened. My league night score for 5 games was a Zero. How humilitating! How demoralizing! How the Hell did this happen! It wasn't that I got outplayed. I played against players who were the same skill level as me, not rack runners, not solid shape shooters, but it happened and it was against the last place team in our division. I gave three games away....not a pretty sight. Aaarrrggghh!

It was a rough night for our whole team! Two of us shot zeroes; three other teammates all shot 2's. One of my teammates who shot a zero also made the comment---"and to think I shaved my legs for this". I'm just glad that she didn't shave anything else....oye vey!

Our score was 19-6. And even though it was not our night for rolls, good luck, or good karma, we never laughed so hard, even to the point where we were crying because we were laughing so hard. It was a memorable night for sure and those memories were not for our awesome shooting but for team camaradie, picking each other up when we were down, and just for good old fashioned "don't give up" "diehard" cheerleading. Our hair looked pretty, even though our shooting was not. We had many "suck it up princess" moments. And even though my shooting was not something I am proud of---I am proud of how we managed to overcome all this and will continue to forge ahead and conquer this game that we love so much.

We couldn't figure out a way for us to snap out of our doledrums. So I get this wise idea, to slap each of us across the face to shake us up. One teammate thought it was a good idea, so I started with her first. I didn't expect to hear the face slapping sound so loud. She was taken aback at first, then she started laughing. Then another teammate sat herself up pretty and was anxiously awaiting her slap which she took like a good little soldier. Apparently this teammate is into S & M or something because she seemed like she really enjoyed her bitch-slapping. She shot a 2. Then another teammate was scared and covered her face, so she got an ear slapping. And then another teammate who was bent down fixing her shoe, as she came up, I bitch-slapped her....she yelled "OH"and the whole team started laughing. She started laughing as well so I felt no harm done. Then when I wasn't looking, the first teammate who got slapped gave me a double whammy on both cheeks---damn--that felt good but I still shot a zero nonetheless.

At least the other team were not gloaters. They did feel sorry for us but not so much. They told us they experienced the same thing the week before and they certainly understood where we were coming from. We just shook their hands; told them it was nice playing with them and walked out of the establishment with our heads held high.

Oh well, at least I can say that I had my first zero and I'm praying to the pool Gods that this will be my last. But if I do happen to get another one, I hope I am still on this same team, cause the bitch-slapping was a rather enlightening experience.

Toodle-loo for now and see you around the pool halls,
M
